A rather short article, but one that got to the point, and one that i see to be very controversial. This article has much to do with the service that is provided to our country by our military, and to those unfortunate lives that are lost in battle. Stating that every member of the service who lost their life has the right to a peaceful funeral, not one interrupted by protesters, protesting their funeral and the war. "Shirley Phelps-Roper, a daughter of Phelps and an attorney for the Topeka-based church, said neither state laws nor the Patriot Guard can silence their message that God killed the troops because they fought for a country that embraces homosexuals." They are saying that all of our soldiers who died, is because our country says gays are okay. That has nothing to do with why our heroes died. Our community saying farewell to Shea has brought us together, in the article some of his friends spoke of him, and you can read and see the compassion everyone sends to Shea. Sharing memories and jokes his friends had with him was tear jerking. Both articles were about service men and women having the right to a peaceful funeral service, one that we can say thank you and good bye at.

This article is logical, and presented well. Giving support to our troops and saying goodbye to the fallen warriors. It brought up the argument of protesters and if it is okay are right. In no sense is it okay and right. Our soldiers deserve to be thanked and said bye to in peace. Evidence is included in both articles, quotes from Shea's friends and family, and the first article had information about protesters, why they were protesting and quotes from them. The argument is persuasive and two sided. One feeling how the protesters do, the other strongly disagreeing. I believe both of these articles reached the intended audiences. The first article making their stance very clear on their stance on the issue, being against the funeral protestors, the second, saying farewell to Shea and keeping the protesters away.

This article made me feel disgusted, disgusted with those people who feel it is right and okay to protest a fallen hero. Thing is, they may not like the war, but fact of the matter is, we are in it, nothing they can do to change that, at least they can do is respect those fallen heroes that died to save and protect those back here. The second article about supporting Shea, who died in Afghanistan about a week ago touched my heart. I personally knew Corporal Shea, and for me to hear and think that their may be protesters at his funeral makes me ill. I want to give him a nice, peaceful goodbye and to say thanks for his sacrifice, not fend off protesters blaming his death for our societies openness for homosexuals. I wish i could somehow single handily stop such acts of violence, protesting fallen heroes is insane, ignorant and down right rude. Let the fallen heroes rest in peace.

How Young is Too Young?

This image was very disturbing to me. I wasnt sure what to make of it, but infact it is very contreversial. As many of us know, we were all raised differently, and grew up in different enviroments. For this album cover, there is a young infant, sitting up looking at a hand gun. Many of us may think that this is teaching our children at a young age about viloence. Some may take it as protection, or teaching them not what to do. Either way, i feel that we are exposing our young children, in todays world, too fast, to the realities of life and the dangers that lurk. Many people may not feel this way, and may interprut this image a bit different. This also may be showing how violent the lyrics of rap music are, and showing that young kids may think about acting out on these lyrics and acting dangerously. This picture could be interpruted many ways, all being very contrversial.

As stated before the two different sides to this image may be that we are teaching violence to our youth, or we are trying to protect them, raise a thought and show them not what to do. If we are teaching them violence, through lyriccs and the pictures that accompany the album, like i feel, then that is down right ignorant. Why would you put some kind of picture with a baby staring a a hand gun on the cover of your music. Now the other side of the argument may in fact be that this trying to raise a spark in your mind, and get you to think that this is not normal and get you to think about how you act around young children, and what you, yourself expose them to.

Either way, this image is effective. It is a strong arrgument for which ever stand you take. It is powerful image and really makes a person think about what they expose children to, and how they act.

Im not sure if this album cover is going to far. In some ways it is, but in others, i feel that it sent a very strong, much needed message to people in todays society. Some people may feel very irritated by this image, but on the other hand i feel that it was needed, to really trigger somehting, to make sure that we watch how we act, what we do, and the message we send to our youth today.

Website Evaluation

URL: http://www.juicyarticles.net/articles/Do-athletes-deserve-to-be-paid-so-much-2126

I have decided that this article did not pass the CRAAP test. Although it did meet some of the criteria, most of it was a negative answer, and in the end i would not be able to use this article in my research paper.

Things that i found to be bad about this article, is that the article has not been revised or updated, there are no links posted on the article. The authors name was "sports galore" and no where on the page did it offer the persons real name or any information about them. None of the statistics listed in the article are cited of where the author got them from, and the article is biased. It seems that the author writing this article thinks that athlets deserve to be paid as much as they are, so the whole POV on the article was writen that they should be. Not arguing both sides of it they should or shouldnt be paid as much.

Things that i found to be good about this article, was that it had no errors, it is current and up to date, the information was supported by facts, etc.

All in all this article does not pass the CRAAP test and i would not use this in my research paper.

Thesis

Hands down, medical doctors should make as much as, if not more, than professional athletes’. There should be a set schedule of what doctors would be able to earn available online for everyone to see, so that they are aware of their possible earnings. The salaries should be increased across the board for all medical doctors.

Survivor

I would chose to vote Lindsay Lohan off the island.

1) The main reasons that i would choose her to be voted off is mainly for the poor decisions she has made. While starting her career as a young girl, it seemed promising. She was a role model to many young girls. As she grew older the partying scene and bad choices became more evident. Using drugs, heavily drinking, her sexcapades, all making her name more of a disgrace.

2)The effects that this will have on the media, will be nothing but good. Getting Lindsay Lohan off the island and out of the media, will hopefully only allow true role models to step into the lime light. I feel that if the other members and young girls of society see what has happened to her and how her life will never be the same it will teach them. Teach them, not what to do. The effects will all in all make society a better place.

3)My personal opinion for making the choice, was that i am against everything she has done. The alcholic-ness, drinking while driving, the drugs she uses, and her "pornography" that she has acted in. None of which are morally right to me. They destroyed her career and she now needs to get her bad choices under control and start her life over. The choices she made are despicable to girls, women, and people her age. How about to her parents and family, all of which are repercussions of her actions, that she never thought about.

Notecard Topics

1) College Costs:
It seems to be that the college costs are on the ever so, increase. When students graduate high school, to further their education it is time to pay for it. The money now comes out of your own pocket. With today's economy it is hard for everyone to receive a job, that makes enough money to pay for their education. And why must education cost so much? In order to receive a job that is well paying enough to support you and your family, you need to have a college degree it seems. What happens if people can't afford this? What are they supposed to do. I believe that education after high school should not be as expensive as it is.

2)Making Marijuana Legal:
There are three sides of this topic that people may consider. Legalizing it for everyone, or for those patients that are terminally ill, and those who would never want to see this drug legalized for any reason. I do not believe in legalizing it for the recreational use of just anyone, but i do see a need for it for those patients who are terminally ill, i.e cancer patients, etc. It would cause too many issues with the gov, peoples jobs, financial burdens, and lead to more serious use of other drugs.

3) Abortion:
I am pro choice. I believe that you have the control over your body and what you do to it, no one else.

4)Salary of pro athletes vs. doctors
I feel very strongly about this. Why would entertainers make more money then those of doctors, who work hard everyday to save peoples lives. Why is it, that athletes who are just playing sports, make millions more then those of doctors. That isn't fair to the doctors who worked so hard to get where they are to help people.

5)Gun control:
Who has the right to own a gun? this topic could be approached many ways. Do mentally ill people have the right to own one? What about those who have been convicted of a crime? As stated, we have the right to bear arms, but who? if anyone could own a gun, how many more shootings would occur, how much violence would there be? Would we be safe?

6) Gay Marriage:
I believe that it is your life, do what you want with it. Who am i to sit here and dictate who you can and cannot marry. If you love the person marry them. Are gays any different the heterosexuals? No.

Break the rules, pay the price

Every gun manufacturer has to follow specific rules and regulations before they sell a gun to a person. The widow of Mr. Woods is suing the gun manufacturer because they did not follow the rules when selling the gun. I firmly believe that Ms. Woods, and her lawyer Mr. Rohr, will win this case.
Mr. Rohr seems to be one of the best lawyers around. He follows the law, and even when he was presented with the opportunity to win "big bucks" he declines the offer, and wants the picture shredded right away. I think he will win the case because he knows what and how to present evidence. Now, im sure we are in for more turns in the movie, but from what I have see thus far, my prediction is that the final outcome of the trial will be Mr. Rohr winning the case.

A Life Like Mine

So says Holly Tyler, “I have to call Val. I mean this is big and im only nineteen” This quote shows how close Holly is with her big sister, Val. My life is closely related to Holly Tyler’s life from the TV series “What I like about You” in many ways. Yet, are lives also differ in various ways from one another. We are similar in our life styles and our family life, friends and schooling. We are also different in our schooling. So many aspects for the character Holly, is so much like me. I can see myself in that TV show, and feel that I compare the best to Holly Tyler.
Holly and I have the most similarities in our family lives. As a young girl, her dad moved to Japan, and left Holly, to be picked up by her young, older sister. With her mom not around, Holly was primarily raised by Val. Val, is the person she runs to, that is the person who she looks up to. Val is most defiantly a mother figure to Holly. This is all too familiar to me and the life I have lived. Holly’s dad is not around, because of work. My dad left when I was eight. I lost my dad that day, and truly never really had a “family” again. Holly was on her own; her parents were not around, her dad half a world away, and her mom, dead. Again, this is like my life. My dad wasn’t around, and I rarely saw him, my mom, dying. Although, my mom is still alive, I have been taking care of her and saving her life since I was eight, being a brittle diabetic and having her sugar drop to almost a comatose level multiple times a week and me having to save her, having had many heart attacks and blood clots, now to her being in kidney failure. I understand Holly’s pain, and I too, run to my older sister. April, thirteen years older then me, has always been my mother figure, as Val is to Holly. I look up to my sister and talk to her about everything. She helps me get through the hard times, and it truly my hero. Even though she has her own life, she took me under her wing, to help me grow and teach life important lessons. Holly’s family life is almost exactly how mine was/is. We both believe that what we have been through has bettered us, and made us stronger adults.

"Be the Hammer, Not the Nail"

Ever since I can remember I was brought up on the phrase to "be the hammer, not the nail". My dad would drill this saying into my head, and I can very well say that it has stuck with me through my life. So far, it has bettered me as a person. In relation to this phrase, I was taught to be independent, and tackle life head on.
Certain things in life will pass you by if you do not take a chance. If you sit around and let certain things in life just pass you by, you may very well miss out on a spectacular moment. "Be the hammer, not the nail" means that in life you need to go after the things you want most and desire. Be the hammer; be strong, ready, and approaching the goal full throttle, go hard at what you want. Not the nail; symbolizing don't let anything stop you or get in the way of you accomplishing what you want. Your dreams are just dreams until you are the hammer, ad go for it and tackle them to make them a reality.
This phrase means so much to me, that I actually have a hammer tattooed on my shoulder, to remind me every day of what I was taught. Never give up, don't lie down and just take things lightly, stand up and fight for what you want. Don't let someone tell you how it is going to be, you make your own life. Being the hammer and not the nail has helped me get where I am today. One particular example, I went after a job that I knew I wanted and was for me. I received all of the necessary certifications to become a Certified Medical Technician and currently wok full time, during the nights. I went after this job, full force, and became employed with one of the best jobs ever. This phrase has also helped me with my schooling career. I wok full time a night and I also attend college full time during the day with intentions to receive my nursing degree. When things get hard, I look at my back, and say to myself, "be the hammer, not the nail". I keep going at it, reaching my dreams until they are fully in my hands.
This phrase means so much to me, and I will continue to live by it for the rest of my life. It has helped me reach certain dreams and aspirations and I believe ad fully live by this "bumper sticker".
