A Life Like Mine

So says Holly Tyler, “I have to call Val. I mean this is big and im only nineteen” This quote shows how close Holly is with her big sister, Val. My life is closely related to Holly Tyler’s life from the TV series “What I like about You” in many ways. Yet, are lives also differ in various ways from one another. We are similar in our life styles and our family life, friends and schooling. We are also different in our schooling. So many aspects for the character Holly, is so much like me. I can see myself in that TV show, and feel that I compare the best to Holly Tyler.
Holly and I have the most similarities in our family lives. As a young girl, her dad moved to Japan, and left Holly, to be picked up by her young, older sister. With her mom not around, Holly was primarily raised by Val. Val, is the person she runs to, that is the person who she looks up to. Val is most defiantly a mother figure to Holly. This is all too familiar to me and the life I have lived. Holly’s dad is not around, because of work. My dad left when I was eight. I lost my dad that day, and truly never really had a “family” again. Holly was on her own; her parents were not around, her dad half a world away, and her mom, dead. Again, this is like my life. My dad wasn’t around, and I rarely saw him, my mom, dying. Although, my mom is still alive, I have been taking care of her and saving her life since I was eight, being a brittle diabetic and having her sugar drop to almost a comatose level multiple times a week and me having to save her, having had many heart attacks and blood clots, now to her being in kidney failure. I understand Holly’s pain, and I too, run to my older sister. April, thirteen years older then me, has always been my mother figure, as Val is to Holly. I look up to my sister and talk to her about everything. She helps me get through the hard times, and it truly my hero. Even though she has her own life, she took me under her wing, to help me grow and teach life important lessons. Holly’s family life is almost exactly how mine was/is. We both believe that what we have been through has bettered us, and made us stronger adults.

  1. Wow! Ya know older sisters are truly the best! My older sister really has taken care of me throughout my life and well has been like a second mother. Sometimes people don't have the best or most full families, but the ones that are there are just that much more special, and i can tell that you really are an awesome person with a sister who loves you :)

  3. I really love being the younger sister because a lot of things I know today are things my older sister taught me over the years growing up! Hearing how you take care of your mom the way you do must be really hard, but it will make you stronger in the end for sure!
